Je suis, Io sono, I am Susan.

For the past several years — especially during the COVID lockdowns— I started tutoring both kids and adults in French and Italian (from basic beginner to advanced levels) for an agency that catered to in person sessions with New Yorkers but also Zoom classes worldwide.

I’ve prepared executives for meetings in Paris; second generation Italian Americans getting ready to meet their ‘parenti e paesani’ in Italy for the first time; helped middle schoolers pass exams with “A” averages; and  co-created narratives and themes with students - in English - for college application essays.

My reputation as a top journalist for various publications including The London Times, The New York Times and others, precedes me, including my coming of age satirical fiction novel Who Town about ‘it kids’ in NYC pre-social media. The book has garnered a local cult following, especially among Millennials and Gen Z. 

As Creator-Host of Lit Society No. 8, I brought together professional storytellers — authors like Kurt Andersen (Fantasyland/Studio 360); Porchista Khakpour (Sons and Other Flammable Objects); the late writer Elizabeth Wurtzel (Prozac Nation) to perform in themed shows that I developed. Actress Parker Posey sometimes served as “ersatz stage director.” Writer-Director John Cameron Mitchell and scribe Jay McInerney (Bright Lights, Big City)  applauded (from the audience) my debut “Coming of Age” program. 

I’ve earned a FIVE STAR rating among adult learners and parents of children attending top schools, including Dalton, Spence, Riverdale and others. 

What makes me UNIQUE among other tutoring services is my approach.  I personalize my lessons to your needs every step of the way, re-assessing the pace as we go along.  I also come from a performing arts background starting in grade school until university  (ballet-music-stage shows.) Thus, we focus on pronunciation; accent; rhythm of language; and presentation, in addition to grammar and writing skills.
